A wet system passing over today, with a light W breeze and no real change in pressure. Lac Gignac should fish best around reed fringes and open pockets today. Numbers are low everywhere; the evening is the pick of them. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Gignac is one of the Mauricie listings for Quebec. The ground around here is rolling bush. At about 28 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. There is roughly 3.7 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Sainte-Thècle at 39 km is the nearest place to stop. After that come Saint-Tite at 40 km and Hérouxville at 43 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Our records hold no depth for this water. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout and walleye among the fish reported. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lac Gignac the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 18°C, while January sits near -15°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near late November in autumn. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Lac Gignac runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Lac Bonhomme, 4 km out. The position on Lac Gignac is worth confirming on the day.
