Showers crossing the water today, with a whisper of wind from the S with a settled glass. Whatever swims in Lac Gibraltar should be near bays that hold the day's warmth. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac Gibraltar lies in Côte-Nord, in Quebec. The water sits 591 metres up. This is sizeable water at about 3.81 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Shoreline length is close to 16 km, and each section fishes a little differently. On our Côte-Nord list it sits near the top for size. The nearest place of any size is Fermont, 17 km away. After that come Wabush at 22 km and Labrador City at 27 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Côte-Nord records list logperch among the fish reported. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. At Lac Gibraltar the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Temperature averages peak at 13°C in July and bottom out at -23°C in January. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Count the season from break-up, usually late May. The open-water window runs from around late May to about late October in an average year. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Lac Gibraltar fishes to that pattern most years.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. If the gate is shut, Lac Border at 3.1 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Lac Gibraltar in what we hold.
