Rain colouring the margins today, with a light chop building from the SSW with a settled glass. Expect most activity at Lac Gerald around the margins and the shelf beyond them. A slow day overall; the morning is the best of a quiet lot. Go lighter and slower than usual. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Abitibi-Témiscamingue end of Quebec holds Lac Gerald. The country here is boreal forest. At about 13 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Bank access stretches around 1.5 km in total. The town to know is Senneterre, 107 km out. Gatineau is the closest city, 266 km away. Also on the doorstep: Lac Peck after 1.5 km, Lac Penhale at about 2.5 km, Lac Holt after 2.6 km, Lac Stroud at about 4 km and Lac Tureuse after 4 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Fish documented in Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. The county list is broader than any single water. At Lac Gerald the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -18°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The water is typically free of ice between early May and mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Lac Gerald runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Peck at 1.5 km is the sensible second choice. Rules at Lac Gerald are worth checking on the day.
