A grey, even sky over the water, with a soft W wind and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Lac Fraser should come off the weed line and any gaps in it. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Fraser stands in Mauricie, Quebec. Country round the bank runs to spruce and muskeg. It covers about 7 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. For a base, Manawan sits 52 km out. For a city, Trois-Rivières is 216 km off. Others worth noting: Lac Pierre out at 1.6 km, Lac Brodie about 2 km, Lac Schmoo out at 2.2 km, Lac Peggy about 2.7 km and Lac Clair out at 2.9 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Across Mauricie, recorded fish include northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Lac Fraser fishes better once you know its edges.
July runs about 16°C on average, January about -17°C. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. The season on Lac Fraser follows the weather closely.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac Pierre sits 1.6 km off and takes the overflow. Check the current arrangement for Lac Fraser.
