Passing showers with dry spells between, with a mirror surface most of the day with a settled glass. On Lac Franconnet, work bays that hold the day's warmth first. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

In Quebec, Lac Franconnet belongs to Nord-du-Québec. The bank gives way to taiga. The water covers around 1.85 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. Shoreline length is close to 19 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Some 30 km away sits Mistissini, the nearest settlement. The big place round here is Saguenay, 328 km distant. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Lac Franconnet gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Typical July readings run about 15°C; by January the average is down near -20°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Count the season from break-up, usually mid May. The season between ice runs from about mid May to early November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Lac Franconnet runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Kaanikuuchasimku, 6.2 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat Lac Franconnet as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
