Dull, settled light over the water, with a kind NNE breeze on the water and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac Ford along the shallows early and the drop later. Plan around the stretch from night into morning. Keep moving until you find them. Biting air and slow fish: small baits, long pauses.

Set in Nord-du-Québec, Quebec, this is Lac Ford. Salt water lies 25 km off. It covers about 14.19 sq km, which means weather matters as much as tactics. At about 35 km of edge, most people fish a single area and learn it well. It is among the larger waters listed here for Nord-du-Québec. Head to Kuujjuaq, 161 km away, for anything you forgot. Puvirnituq follows at 410 km, then Salluit at 445 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Reported across Nord-du-Québec: Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Lac Ford the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
The year swings from about -24°C in January to roughly 11°C in July. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early June. Ice clears near early June and comes back about late October in a typical year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. The season on Lac Ford rarely departs from it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac Saint-Fond sits 14 km off and takes the overflow. For Lac Ford, the notice at the access point is the final word.
