Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with hardly a ripple anywhere and pressure going nowhere. The fish at Lac Foch are likely to sit near the calm side of the wind. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Quebec holds Lac Foch, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. The surface lies 411 metres up. With some 67 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The edge runs 4.5 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Few waters listed in Abitibi-Témiscamingue are bigger. Ferme-Neuve at 111 km is the nearest place to stop. For a city, Gatineau is 237 km off. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. County-wide records name northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Take Lac Foch a stretch at a time.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -18°C. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Lac Foch runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Should this one be busy, Lac Armentieres is 3 km off. Nothing on Lac Foch should be assumed from this page alone.
