A closed sky with even light today, with steady pressure of wind from the SSW and no real change in pressure. The fish at Lac Flot are likely to sit near bays that hold the day's warmth. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Flot sits in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, out in Quebec. This is spruce and muskeg country. Small at around 4 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Roberval lies 45 km from the water. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 115 km away. Water in the same corner: Lac Rene lies 0.7 km on, Lac Ginette after 1.4 km, Lac Chicoutimi lies 1.5 km on, Lac du Rat Musque after 1.7 km and Lac Tharsice lies 2.2 km on. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Work Lac Flot in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -17°C in January. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. It holds true on Lac Flot more years than not.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac Rene, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac Flot, the notice at the access point is the final word.
