Overcast skies today, with light air out of the S with a settled glass. Lac Fern should fish best around bays that hold the day's warmth today. If you must go, go in the morning. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Côte-Nord, Quebec, is where Lac Fern sits. Elevation runs to 487 metres. With some 31 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Bank access stretches around 4.3 km in total. Forestville is the closest place, 99 km off. For a city, Saguenay is 117 km off. Water in the same corner: Lac Lionel about 1.4 km, Premier lac Bebe near enough 1.9 km, Etang Marcel about 2.1 km, Lac a Ghis near enough 2.1 km and Lac Daniel about 2.2 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Côte-Nord cover logperch. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Work Lac Fern in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -19°C. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Fern.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Lionel sits 1.4 km off and takes the overflow. For Lac Fern, the notice at the access point is the final word.
