Dull, settled light over the water, with a light SSW breeze with a settled glass. Start the search at Lac February along windblown banks where food collects. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Night
Look for Lac February in Laurentides, Quebec. Land around it is mixed forest. At about 25 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The whole outline is near 3.1 km, and most of it is walkable. Size puts it in the front rank of our Laurentides list. Ferme-Neuve lies 46 km from the water. Gatineau sits 177 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Across Laurentides, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. On Lac February a short move beats a long cast.
Averages move between -16°C in January and 18°C in July. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. The season on Lac February rarely departs from it.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Failing this one, try Lac March, 1.6 km away. Rules at Lac February are worth checking on the day.
