Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a gentle ripple from the WSW and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac Etoile along the seam between weed and open water. Numbers are low everywhere; the middle of the day is the pick of them. Take the small wins and call it early if it dies.

Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean in Quebec is where Lac Etoile sits. It lies 568 metres above sea level. It measures about 10 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Roughly 1.8 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. It is high ground by Quebec standards. The town to know is Labrecque, 168 km out. Saguenay is the closest city, 181 km away. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Fish Lac Etoile to its features, not to its size.
Long-run averages give July about 15°C and January about -20°C. Winter owns most of the year at this latitude. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near mid May. Ice clears near mid May and comes back about early November in a typical year. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Etoile.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac Catherine at 0.7 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing on Lac Etoile should be assumed from this page alone.
