Soft grey light all day today, with a whisper of wind from the S and steady pressure. Fish at Lac Etire should hold close to bays that hold the day's warmth. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Quebec holds Lac Etire, in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean. The water sits 357 metres up. With some 19 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The whole outline is near 3.8 km, and most of it is walkable. Nearest place of any size is Normandin, 65 km away. Albanel is 69 km away, with Saint-Félicien at 80 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Open biodiversity records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. At Lac Etire light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -18°C in January. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. The season on Lac Etire rarely departs from it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. The nearest alternative is Lac Lazer, 1.8 km out. Treat access at Lac Etire as something to verify.
