An even grey lid over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSE with the barometer flat. Give points where shallow meets deep the first hour at Lac Etel. If you pick one session, make it the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Within Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec, you have Lac Etel. Height above sea level is 313 metres. Chibougamau is the closest place, 87 km off. It is 206 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Open biodiversity records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Lac Etel that means starting tight and working out.
Long-run averages give July about 16°C and January about -19°C. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. At Lac Etel the season follows that pattern closely.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Failing this one, try Lac Illy, 0.8 km away. Check the position on Lac Etel before loading the car.
