Overcast skies today, with just enough WSW wind to ripple the surface and pressure sitting still. Fish at Lac England should hold close to structure within a cast of the bank. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

You will find Lac England in Nipissing District, Ontario. The land about it is mixed forest. This is a pocket water of some 8 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Bank access stretches around 1.9 km in total. It is a small entry by Nipissing District standards. Supplies mean a trip to Témiscaming, 9 km off. Beyond it, Notre-Dame-du-Lac at 11 km and Mattawa at 45 km. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Nipissing District, recorded fish include smallmouth bass, cisco, yellow perch and pumpkinseed. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lac England a short move beats a long cast.
Long-run averages give July about 18°C and January about -13°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Lac England fishes to that pattern most years.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac a l'Eau Claire, 2.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Lac England.
