A grey, even sky over the water, with mild air moving in from the SW and steady pressure. Fish at Lac Emma should hold close to reed fringes and open pockets. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

You will find Lac Emma in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. Elevation runs to 331 metres. It measures about 18 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. A shoreline of some 3.2 km keeps the choices simple. 44 km away sits Mattawa, the nearest town. Deep River follows at 59 km, then Chalk River at 68 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Abitibi-Témiscamingue records list northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker among the fish reported. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. On Lac Emma the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
The seasonal spread runs -14°C to 18°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Anyone fishing Lac Emma regularly works to that calendar.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Lac Pinguet, 1.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat Lac Emma as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
