Solid cloud cover today, with a light E breeze with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Lac Elizabeth should come off the seam between weed and open water. The forecast is against you; the night is the least bad option. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Set in Nord-du-Québec, Lac Elizabeth is a Quebec water. It sits at 254 metres above sea level. Around 34.10 sq km of open water: conditions change from one end to the other. The bank runs about 131 km in total, split between open shore and sheltered corners. It ranks high for size among our Nord-du-Québec listings. Nearest place of any size is Sanikiluaq, 255 km away. It is 853 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Across Nord-du-Québec, recorded fish include Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. The county list is broader than any single water. On Lac Elizabeth the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
The year swings from about -23°C in January to roughly 13°C in July. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Count the season from break-up, usually late May. Climate averages put the opening at about late May and the closing near early November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Lac Elizabeth fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Should this one be busy, Lac Isabelle is 12 km off. For Lac Elizabeth, the notice at the access point is the final word.
