Wet weather working through today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSW with the barometer flat. The water to cover at Lac Dumais is sheltered bays and points. Everything points to the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Dumais belongs to Mauricie, Quebec. Around the bank it is boreal forest. It measures some 1.22 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. Shoreline length is close to 10 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Few waters listed in Mauricie are bigger. For a base, Leblanc sits 41 km out. After that come Weymontachie at 54 km and Manawan at 78 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Mauricie: northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. At Lac Dumais the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -17°C in January. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. At Lac Dumais the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. For a change of water, Lac Willott is 2.1 km distant. For Lac Dumais, the notice at the access point is the final word.
