Solid cloud cover today, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSE and the barometer holding steady. Whatever swims in Lac Dubord should be near the first drop-off and weed lines. The forecast backs the stretch from night into morning. Settle in and let the day develop. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Out in Capitale-Nationale, Quebec, sits Lac Dubord. Elevation runs to 231 metres. Surface area is around 29 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The edge runs 2.4 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. On our Capitale-Nationale list it sits near the top for size. Some 10 km away sits Laurentides, the nearest settlement. Trois-Rivières sits 80 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Fish documented in Capitale-Nationale include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon and longnose sucker. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Take Lac Dubord a stretch at a time.
Between January at about -15°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. It holds true on Lac Dubord more years than not.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Failing this one, try Petit lac Guilbeault, 2.1 km away.
