Wet weather working through today, with a light SSW breeze and pressure going nowhere. Give the shaded margin through bright spells the first hour at Lac du Vieillard. The forecast is against you; the night is the least bad option. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Lac du Vieillard is one of the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine waters in Quebec. The land about it is lake country bush. Roughly 12 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The whole outline is near 1.8 km, and most of it is walkable. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. Start from Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, 45 km down the road. It is 384 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Survey and observation records for Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine include American eel, striped bass and alewife. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lac du Vieillard the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Between January at about -15°C and July at about 15°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly mid May. On average, mid May opens the water and early November closes it again. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Plan any trip to Lac du Vieillard around it.
Access is not recorded for this water. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac a Rene at 2.8 km is the sensible second choice. Rules at Lac du Vieillard are worth checking on the day.
