An even grey lid over the water, with a whisper of wind from the SSE with the barometer flat. The productive water at Lac du Renard will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. If you pick one session, make it the morning. Stay mobile and follow the activity. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac du Renard lies in Mauricie, in Quebec. Beyond the shoreline you have lake country bush. Around 12 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The whole outline is near 2.2 km, and most of it is walkable. Some 10 km away sits Saint-Tite, the nearest settlement. Beyond it, Sainte-Thècle at 12 km and Hérouxville at 16 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Reported across Mauricie: northern pike, brook trout and walleye. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. At Lac du Renard the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Long-run averages give July about 18°C and January about -14°C. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Lac du Renard fishes to that pattern most years.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac Fontaine, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Lac du Renard for certain.
