Clear overhead with good moonlight, with just enough SW wind to ripple the surface with a settled glass. Give the weed line and any gaps in it the first hour at Lac du Podarge. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Lac du Podarge stands in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. The ground around here is mixed forest. The water covers some 18 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Shoreline comes to about 2.3 km, small enough to learn in a day. The closest town, Deep River, is 73 km distant. After that come Mattawa at 74 km and Chalk River at 83 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Public occurrence data for Abitibi-Témiscamingue names northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. On Lac du Podarge the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Between January at about -15°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly late November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. At Lac du Podarge the season follows that pattern closely.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Skead at 3.7 km is the sensible second choice. For Lac du Podarge, the notice at the access point is the final word.
