Rain on and off through the day, with mild air moving in from the SSW and pressure going nowhere. Whatever swims in Lac du Panais should be near the seam between weed and open water. Save your energy for the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Night
Set in Outaouais, Quebec, this is Lac du Panais. Everything around it is pine and birch. At 4 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Outaouais. Ripon lies 13 km from the water. It is 46 km to Orléans, the nearest city. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Outaouais records list pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter among the fish reported. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Read Lac du Panais for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Temperature averages peak at 19°C in July and bottom out at -13°C in January. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near early December: that is the shape of an average year. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. At Lac du Panais the season follows that pattern closely.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Lac des Piquants is 0.5 km off. What applies at Lac du Panais may have changed since it was mapped.
