Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with next to no ripple and pressure sitting still. Give the calm side of the wind the first hour at Lac du Panache. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

This water sits in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. The bank gives way to mixed forest. A splashy cast here empties the swim; a quiet one owns it. It is a small entry by Abitibi-Témiscamingue standards. Saint-Isidore is the closest place, 45 km off. Saint-Bruno-de-Guigues is 55 km away, with Ville-Marie at 56 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. County-wide records name northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Lac du Panache gives up more to patience than to distance.
Typical July readings run about 18°C; by January the average is down near -16°C. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Ice is part of the season here, ending near late April. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near late November in autumn. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Lac du Panache runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, Lac du Jambon at 0.8 km is the nearest alternative. Check the position on Lac du Panache before loading the car.
