A closed sky with even light today, with a whisper of wind from the S with the barometer flat. On Lac du Lynx, work shallow cover and weed edges first. The productive run goes night into morning. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac du Lynx lies in Mauricie, Quebec. The water sits 272 metres up. At about 12 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 2.4 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. For supplies, Saint-Tite is 50 km out. Sainte-Thècle follows at 51 km, then Hérouxville at 51 km. Others close at hand: Lac Dunbar (2 km), 2.7 km out stands Lac Adam, Lac du Rat (2.8 km), 2.9 km out stands Lac Perdu and Lac Swasey (3.2 km). The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout and walleye. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Lac du Lynx the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in July and bottom out at -15°C in January. Winter shuts the surface down for months. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near late November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. It holds true on Lac du Lynx more years than not.
Access is not recorded for this water. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The water borders Réserve faunique du Saint-Maurice, so expect the reserve rules to apply. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Failing this one, try Lac Dunbar, 2 km away. Nothing here settles the position at Lac du Lynx for certain.
