Steady rain over the water today, with a gentle ripple from the S with the barometer flat. Expect most activity at Lac du Cerf around the calm side of the wind. The morning should out-fish the rest of the day. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Night
Lac du Cerf falls in Mauricie, part of Quebec. The bank is 252 metres above sea level. At 2 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. On size it sits at the modest end of our Mauricie list. Nearest place of any size is Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, 30 km away. Further out sit Mandeville (34 km) and Shawinigan (40 km). There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Mauricie, recorded fish include northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Lac du Cerf gives up more to patience than to distance.
Seasonal averages run from -14°C in January up to 18°C in July. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. The season on Lac du Cerf follows the weather closely.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac aux Chantiers at 1 km is the sensible second choice. For Lac du Cerf, the notice at the access point is the final word.
