Flat light and a covered sky today, with mild air moving in from the S and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac du Canard along the calm side of the wind. If you pick one session, make it the morning. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Mauricie, Quebec, is where Lac du Canard sits. It sits at 232 metres above sea level. At roughly 5 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Some 12 km away sits Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, the nearest settlement. It is 45 km to Trois-Rivières, the nearest city. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Mauricie cover northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. The county list is broader than any single water. Lac du Canard gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Seasonal averages run from -14°C in January up to 18°C in July. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Plan around that when you fish Lac du Canard.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. The nearest alternative is Lac des Souris, 1.9 km out. Treat access at Lac du Canard as something to verify.
