Overcast skies today, with a persistent wind from the SSW and no real change in pressure. The fish at Lac du Canard are likely to sit near the shallows early and the drop later. The night is where the day comes good. Make the first hour count and build on it. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Out in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec, sits Lac du Canard. Land around it is boreal forest. It measures about 20 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Roughly 3.6 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Supplies mean a trip to Saint-Félicien, 38 km off. Saguenay is the closest city, 124 km away. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. The near bank of Lac du Canard is often the one people ignore.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -18°C. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. The season on Lac du Canard rarely departs from it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Souffrance, 1.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the current arrangement for Lac du Canard.
