A closed sky with even light today, with calm air over the water and pressure sitting still. Give the margins and the shelf beyond them the first hour at Lac du Brulot. The night carries the best of the day. Make the first hour count and build on it. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac du Brulot lies in Mauricie, in Quebec. The surroundings are pine and birch. It measures about 10 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. There is roughly 1.9 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Sainte-Thècle is the closest town at 47 km. After that come Saint-Tite at 47 km and Hérouxville at 49 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker among the fish reported. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac du Brulot the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Climate records put July near 18°C and January near -15°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. That is the shape of the year on Lac du Brulot.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lac de la Chicoute, 0.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on Lac du Brulot should be assumed from this page alone.
