A grey, even sky over the water, with a soft WSW wind and the barometer holding steady. Give the calm side of the wind the first hour at Lac du Barlot. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac du Barlot is one of the Côte-Nord waters in Quebec. Elevation runs to 530 metres. With some 18 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The edge runs 2.8 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. Forestville at 75 km is the nearest place to stop. For a city, Saguenay is 112 km off. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Côte-Nord: logperch. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. On Lac du Barlot that means starting tight and working out.
Averages here run 16°C at the top of summer and -18°C at the bottom of winter. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Plan any trip to Lac du Barlot around it.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac Chimo, 1.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the current arrangement for Lac du Barlot.
