A still, cloudless night on the water, with flat calm through the day and pressure sitting still. Fish at Lac Drageon should hold close to the weed line and any gaps in it. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

The Abitibi-Témiscamingue end of Quebec holds Lac Drageon. It lies 350 metres above sea level. Around 14 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. Shoreline comes to about 2.5 km, small enough to learn in a day. Some 97 km away sits Val-d'Or, the nearest settlement. For a city, Gatineau is 236 km off. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Survey and observation records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Lac Drageon the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The seasonal spread runs -16°C to 17°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to late November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. The season on Lac Drageon rarely departs from it.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Sort the permit out before you load the car. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lac Secret, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the current arrangement for Lac Drageon.
