An even grey lid over the water, with next to no ripple and steady pressure. The water to cover at Lac Dollard is the shaded margin through bright spells. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

The Nord-du-Québec entry here is Lac Dollard, in Quebec. Taiga runs right down to the water. It measures about 22 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The bank runs about 2.9 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. On size it sits at the modest end of our Nord-du-Québec list. For supplies, Chibougamau is 40 km out. Further out sit Chapais (54 km) and Mistissini (96 km). No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Species logged across Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Lac Dollard that means starting tight and working out.
The year swings from about -19°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Lac Dollard runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Lac Foisy is 1.1 km off. Ask locally about Lac Dollard if anything is unclear.
