Open sky and sharp air tonight, with a stiffish breeze from the WNW with the glass holding level. Give any hard bottom among the soft the first hour at Lac Dion. The strongest window is the middle of the day. Stay patient; middling days often turn late. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Night
Lac Dion sits in Mauricie, out in Quebec. Land around it is rolling bush. Roughly 17 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Around 3.0 km of margin, front to back. Hérouxville at 25 km is the nearest place to stop. Trois-Rivières sits 56 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Lac Dion responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The seasonal spread runs -14°C to 18°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. On Lac Dion that shapes the whole year.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. The nearest alternative is Lac du Fou, 1.8 km out. None of that is settled for Lac Dion in what we hold.
