Broken cloud drifting past the moon tonight, with a soft NW wind and pressure sitting still. Whatever swims in Lac Diablos should be near the shaded margin through bright spells. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Diablos is one of the Mauricie waters in Quebec. It sits at 383 metres above sea level. About 8 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Start from Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, 45 km down the road. Beyond it, Saint-Michel-des-Saints at 45 km and Mandeville at 48 km. Nearby alternatives: Lac Pourpre at 0.2 km, Lac Traverse 0.4 km away, Lac du Rutabaga at 0.6 km, Lac du Hetre 0.8 km away and Lac de la Faine at 0.8 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Fish documented in Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. The county list is broader than any single water. Anyone new to Lac Diablos should walk it once before setting up.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -15°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. On Lac Diablos the same rules apply, with local timing.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. The nearest alternative is Lac Pourpre, 0.2 km out. For Lac Diablos, the notice at the access point is the final word.
