Overcast skies today, with flat calm through the day with a settled glass. On Lac des Pins, work windblown banks where food collects first. A slow day overall; the morning is the best of a quiet lot. Go lighter and slower than usual. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Look for Lac des Pins in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue part of Quebec. It sits at 352 metres above sea level. Roughly 59 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. About 3.5 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. On our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list it sits near the top for size. The nearest town is Senneterre, 23 km away. Gatineau is the closest city, 322 km away. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Reported across Abitibi-Témiscamingue: northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Lac des Pins fishes better once you know its edges.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -17°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Lac des Pins runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac Mekiskine, 3.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Lac des Pins before loading the car.
