Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a kind SSE breeze on the water and no real change in pressure. On Lac des Ours, work the calm side of the wind first. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the evening. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac des Ours sits in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, out in Quebec. It lies 409 metres above sea level. This is a pocket water of some 3 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list holds plenty of bigger water. Nearest town is Rouyn-Noranda, 36 km off. Further out sit Macamic (38 km) and Amos (44 km). It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Survey and observation records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Lac des Ours a short move beats a long cast.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -18°C in January. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Plan around that when you fish Lac des Ours.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Lac La Haie sits 0.8 km off and takes the overflow. Confirm before you fish Lac des Ours.
