A sharp, clear morning turning into a bright day, with stillness over the whole water with the glass holding level. On Lac des Iles, work the first drop-off and weed lines first. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, is where Lac des Iles sits. The ground around here is pine and birch. About 1.35 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. Around 12 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. On our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list it sits near the top for size. Notre-Dame-du-Lac is the closest town at 54 km. Further out sit Témiscaming (59 km) and Mattawa (67 km). No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Public occurrence data for Abitibi-Témiscamingue names northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Lac des Iles fishes better once you know its edges.
Averages move between -14°C in January and 18°C in July. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Expect Lac des Iles to follow that timing.
Access is not recorded for this water. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. The nearest alternative is Lac Welsinger, 3.8 km out. For Lac des Iles in particular, ask before you travel.
