Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with dead-still conditions and pressure sitting still. Whatever swims in Lac des Abattis should be near the seam between weed and open water. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Set in Laurentides, Lac des Abattis is a Quebec water. The bank gives way to boreal forest. Small at around 4 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Most waters listed here for Laurentides are larger. For supplies, Ferme-Neuve is 83 km out. Mont-Laurier follows at 98 km, then Saint-Boniface at 103 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Public occurrence data for Laurentides names pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. The shape of Lac des Abattis rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Between January at about -17°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Lac des Abattis runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Failing this one, try Lac Wavell, 1 km away. Check the current arrangement for Lac des Abattis.
