A clean, cloudless night over the water, with a gentle ripple from the W with the glass holding level. Give the shaded margin through bright spells the first hour at Lac Delmas. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient.

Look for Lac Delmas in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. The bank is 311 metres above sea level. Roughly 25 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. There is roughly 2.9 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. The town to know is Rouyn-Noranda, 37 km out. Kirkland Lake follows at 46 km, then La Sarre at 55 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Lac Delmas a short move beats a long cast.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -17°C in January. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Lac Delmas runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
We hold no note on access for this one. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Failing this one, try Lac Floyd, 1.7 km away. Rules at Lac Delmas are worth checking on the day.
