Overcast skies today, with a gentle ripple from the SW with the glass holding level. The productive water at Lac Dean will be around the weed line and any gaps in it. Not a day the forecast likes; the evening keeps a flicker of interest. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Look for Lac Dean in the Côte-Nord part of Quebec. The surface lies 170 metres up. Around 15 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. Shoreline comes to about 2.0 km, small enough to learn in a day. It lies lower than most water we list in Quebec. Baie-Comeau at 63 km is the nearest place to stop. The big place round here is Saguenay, 294 km distant. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Côte-Nord records list logperch among the fish reported. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Anyone new to Lac Dean should walk it once before setting up.
The seasonal spread runs -14°C to 16°C. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. On Lac Dean that shapes the whole year.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Part of this sits inside or beside Zec Trinité, so read the notices. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Lac Ranel, 0.9 km out. What applies at Lac Dean may have changed since it was mapped.
