Overcast skies today, with a whisper of wind from the NNW with a settled glass. Start the search at Lac Deacon along the first drop-off and weed lines. A hard day on paper; the morning edges the rest. Go lighter and slower than usual. Bundle up; the fishing will be slow but not impossible.

Lac Deacon is a Côte-Nord water, Quebec side. The bank is 573 metres above sea level. At 9 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. It is high ground by Quebec standards. Labrador City is the closest place, 226 km off. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 777 km away. Alternatives close at hand: Lac Denyse just 0.8 km, Lac Allspur 1.4 km off, Lac Guy just 1.7 km, Greenbush Lake 4.7 km off and Lac Gravy just 5.1 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Côte-Nord names logperch. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Take Lac Deacon a stretch at a time.
Averages here run 12°C at the top of summer and -24°C at the bottom of winter. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early June. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early June and starts locking again about late October. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Expect Lac Deacon to follow that timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. For a change of water, Lac Denyse is 0.8 km distant. Rules at Lac Deacon are worth checking on the day.
