A windy day on the water, with a firm SSW blow and pressure going nowhere. On Lac De Quen, work windblown banks where food collects first. The strongest window is the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

You will find Lac De Quen in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. It sits at 374 metres above sea level. With some 65 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. A shoreline of some 4.9 km keeps the choices simple. Size puts it in the front rank of our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list. Some 16 km away sits Métabetchouan, the nearest settlement. After that come Chambord at 22 km and Desbiens at 23 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Read Lac De Quen for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Averages move between -17°C in January and 17°C in July. Winter owns most of the year at this latitude. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Anyone fishing Lac De Quen regularly works to that calendar.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. For a change of water, Lac Gougeon is 1.3 km distant. For Lac De Quen, the notice at the access point is the final word.
