Snow in the air today, with a persistent wind from the WNW and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Lac de Loriere should come off the shaded margin through bright spells. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. A hard-frost feel to the day; keep expectations modest.

Lac de Loriere is one of the Nord-du-Québec listings for Quebec. This is boreal forest ground. Surface area runs to roughly 5.77 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. The shoreline runs about 13 km, so it pays to pick a stretch and stay with it. It is one of the larger waters we list anywhere in Quebec. For supplies, Kuujjuaq is 271 km out. The big place round here is Saguenay, 1319 km distant. This one is safely inside the county line.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Nord-du-Québec records list Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout among the fish reported. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Lac de Loriere the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
In an average year July sits at 9°C and February at -21°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Once it clears, about mid June, the fishing comes on quickly. The open-water window runs from around mid June to about mid October in an average year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Plan any trip to Lac de Loriere around it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac Sheppard at 11 km is the sensible second choice. For Lac de Loriere in particular, ask before you travel.
