Scattered cloud dimming the moonlight, with a stiffish breeze from the WNW and pressure going nowhere. Give the weed line and any gaps in it the first hour at Lac de l'Ile. The productive run goes the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac de l'Ile lies within the bounds of Quebec. The setting is lake country bush on every side. Roughly 17 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The full circuit measures close to 2.4 km on foot. The closest town, Deep River, is 47 km away. After that come Mattawa at 50 km and Chalk River at 55 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Lac de l'Ile repays a walk before the first cast. Within 25 km there are hundreds; within 50 km, hundreds.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in July and bottoms out near -14°C in January. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. The water is typically free of ice between late April and late November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Lac de l'Ile fishes to that pattern most years.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. If the gate is shut, Lac de la Dorcas at 0.6 km is the nearest alternative. For Lac de l'Ile, the notice at the access point is the final word.
