No direct sun expected today, with a useful S wind pushing food about with the glass holding level. Start the search at Lac de l'Epagneul along the seam between weed and open water. The best of it runs night into morning. Small adjustments will matter more than big moves. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac de l'Epagneul is a Mauricie water, in Quebec. The setting is boreal forest on every side. The nearest town is La Tuque, 50 km away. Beyond it, Laurentides at 65 km and Métabetchouan at 75 km. Near neighbours include: 0.5 km out stands Lac en Eperon, Lac a la Pluie within 1.4 km, 1.7 km out stands Lac des Stipes, Lac de la Montagne Brulee within 1.9 km and 1.9 km out stands Lac de la Hauteur. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout and walleye. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Lac de l'Epagneul fishes better once you know its edges.
On the long-term average, July reads 17°C and January reads -16°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac de l'Epagneul.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac en Eperon, 0.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac de l'Epagneul, the notice at the access point is the final word.
