A grey, even sky over the water, with an easy breeze from the SSW and pressure sitting still. Whatever swims in Lac de la Sphaigne should be near the calm side of the wind. If you must go, go in the evening. Save the long walk for a better forecast. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac de la Sphaigne is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean waters in Quebec. The land about it is northern bush. Small at around 9 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. For supplies, Saint-Fulgence is 43 km out. Saint-Honoré is 50 km away, with La Baie at 51 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The near bank of Lac de la Sphaigne is often the one people ignore.
Expect July near 15°C and January near -19°C on the long-run figures. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Look for the thaw near mid May; the fishing lifts straight after. Climate averages put the opening at about mid May and the closing near early November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Plan around that when you fish Lac de la Sphaigne.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Failing this one, try Lac des Trois Passes, 0.8 km away. For Lac de la Sphaigne, the notice at the access point is the final word.
