An even grey lid over the water, with a steady S wind and the barometer holding steady. On Lac de la Serpe, work reed fringes and open pockets first. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

In Quebec, Lac de la Serpe belongs to Mauricie. The bank is 366 metres above sea level. On water this small, stealth matters more than range. It is a small entry by Mauricie standards. Start from La Tuque, 55 km down the road. Saguenay is the closest city, 117 km away. More in the same country: Lac Lo at 0.5 km, Lac Rolland just 0.5 km, Lac Bibo at 0.7 km, Lac de l'Orignal just 1 km and Lac de la Bine at 1 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. On Lac de la Serpe a short move beats a long cast.
Between January at about -16°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Plan around that when you fish Lac de la Serpe.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac Lo, 0.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac de la Serpe, the notice at the access point is the final word.
