Rain moving through today, with stillness over the whole water and the barometer holding steady. The fish at Lac de la Samare are likely to sit near points where shallow meets deep. Save your energy for the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac de la Samare is a Lanaudière water, in Quebec. The surroundings are northern bush. Surface area runs to about 2 hectares — small enough to read in one session. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Lanaudière. For a base, Manawan sits 44 km out. Further out sit Weymontachie (53 km) and La Tuque (83 km). It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Species logged across Lanaudière include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lac de la Samare gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -16°C on the long-run figures. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Lac de la Samare runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Mirror sits 0.8 km off and takes the overflow. Ask locally about Lac de la Samare if anything is unclear.
