No direct sun expected today, with a whisper of wind from the WSW and the barometer holding steady. Give any hard bottom among the soft the first hour at Lac de la Raquette. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Lac de la Raquette is a Quebec water. The country here is northern bush. At about 19 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. You are looking at roughly 5.3 km of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. Start from Pont Rouge, 64 km down the road. Saguenay is the closest city, 98 km away. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Lac de la Raquette repays a walk before the first cast.
Average temperature peaks around 16°C in July and bottoms out near -19°C in January. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Anyone fishing Lac de la Raquette regularly works to that calendar.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. If the gate is shut, Lac Girard at 0.9 km is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Lac de la Raquette in what we hold.
