Drifting cloud with clear gaps tonight, with hardly a ripple anywhere and the barometer holding steady. Fish at Lac de la Pause should hold close to windblown banks where food collects. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Lac de la Pause is a Quebec water. It lies 350 metres above sea level. Small at around 2 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is a small entry by Abitibi-Témiscamingue standards. Some 83 km away sits Val-d'Or, the nearest settlement. It is 249 km to Gatineau, the nearest city. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Abitibi-Témiscamingue, recorded fish include northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Lac de la Pause gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Between January at about -16°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. Ice clears near early May and comes back about late November in a typical year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. On Lac de la Pause that shapes the whole year.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac Paumure at 0.4 km is the sensible second choice. Treat access at Lac de la Pause as something to verify.
