An even grey lid over the water, with hardly a ripple anywhere and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Lac de la Neuf along the calm side of the wind. The productive run goes the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac de la Neuf lies in Outaouais, Quebec. Beyond the shoreline you have lake country bush. This is a pocket water of some 6 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Ripon sits 7.8 km from the bank. The big place round here is Orléans, 44 km distant. Close by you also have: Lac du Chevreuil roughly 0.6 km, Lac Long some 0.8 km off, Lac des Castors roughly 1 km, Lac des Fees some 1.2 km off and Lac des Mauves roughly 1.8 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Species logged across Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Lac de la Neuf repays a walk before the first cast.
Climate records put July near 19°C and January near -13°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. On average, late April opens the water and early December closes it again. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Plan around that when you fish Lac de la Neuf.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. If the gate is shut, Lac du Chevreuil at 0.6 km is the nearest alternative. What applies at Lac de la Neuf may have changed since it was mapped.
